Date: Sunday, February 28, 2010 Time: 3:30pm - 5:30pm Location: Grace AME Zion Church Street: 3722 David Cox Road City/Town: Charlotte, NC At a very affordable price, come and enjoy a wonderful afternoon of classical music with a full symphony orchestra conducted by Dr. Geoffrey Whitehead performing Mozart's Symphony No. 41 "Jupiter Symphony", and Handel's Concerto Grosso No. 8 featuring oboe soloist Claudia Devereaux (prinicpal oboist for the Charlotte Civic Orchestra). The Charlotte Civic Orchestra will be joined by the Choir of Grace AME Zion Music Ministries to perform multiple pieces for gospel choir and orchestra - including an orchestral excerpt of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 "Ode to Joy", an American hymn tune fantasy "Present Joys" by Walter Hartley, as well as other hymn favorites including A Mighty Fortress is Our God, and Holy, Holy, Holy. | Hanoch Hickman Plays Second Harvest Food Bank's Annual Empty Bowls Event
Join us for this year’s Empty Bowl’s event on February 26, 2010 from 11:30am – 1:30pm at the Charotte City Center Marriott in Uptown Charlotte. This will be Hanoch Hickman's 8th year playing the event. Empty Bowls is a fundraiser designed to raise awareness and funds in our battle to end hunger in the Metrolina region. Potters of all ages, skill levels and approaches to clay will donate hundreds of handmade ceramic bowls. The public is invited to attend this wonderful event. Maureen O’Boyle with WBTV News is the guest emcee. Empty Bowl attendees will receive a simple lunch which will include soup, a variety of sandwiches and drink. They also receive a handcrafted bowl of their choice. The bowl then serves as a reminder that someone’s bowl is always empty and that we need to continue our efforts to alleviate hunger in our community. During the event, a silent auction is held as part of the fundraiser. Ticket sales begin the end of January. Check back at that time for more details about the event.
